Jan Zehrfeld: Crass
“Krassung” describes the creative process in music in which simpler, comprehensible elements are converted into more complex and more difficult to understand forms. A common thread remains, which ensures recognition value, while humor and wonder help bridge the distance to alienation. Humor and wonder arise on the one hand from the tension that results from the recognition of the simpler elements in a complex context and on the other hand through the combination of strongly contrasting stylistic elements from metal, jazz and classical music. This principle applies both to cover versions and to own compositions, in which known or unknown melodies and rhythms are broken down into their individual parts and recombined in an artful way.
